PAINTING AS PASSAGE, curatorial exhibition cycle accompanied by publications

The exhibition series addresses the field of painting, accessing it from a perspective that goes beyond generally accepted approaches: To what extent can painting be defined? And from what notions can it be defined? What is its purpose, or what is it necessary for? In attempting to examine the spectrum of what can be considered painting in the broadest sense in contemporary art, a diversity of topics and areas of interest are included, intended to serve as suggestions for discussing painting from various viewpoints.
The exhibition Unfinished Sympathy (2018) questions the relation between painting & time, Phototropia (2019) approached the relation between painting & space, and Grammaires fantômes / Phantomgrammatiken (2020) develops from interrogations concerning the link between painting & language.

La série d’expositions aborde le champ de la peinture en adoptant une perspective qui dépasse les approches généralement admises. Elle interroge ce qui permet de définir la peinture : à partir de quelles notions peut-on la penser ? Que vise-t-elle, ou à quoi est-elle nécessaire ? En cherchant à examiner l’étendue de ce qui peut être considéré comme peinture au sens le plus large dans l’art contemporain, la série rassemble une diversité de problématiques et de domaines d’intérêt, conçus comme autant de pistes pour discuter la peinture depuis différents points de vue. L’exposition Unfinished Sympathy (2018) questionne le rapport entre peinture et temps. Phototropia (2019) explore la relation entre peinture et espace. Grammaires fantômes / Phantomgrammatiken (2020) développe quant à elle une réflexion autour du lien entre peinture et langage.
