N.Lichtig, DARK MATTER, two-sided, ink, charcoal, print on canvas, variable sizes, since 2018 — ongoing

Double sided paintings made of ink and charcoal, never revealing themselves entirely, in analogy to Dark Matter which I learned, is expected to make up about 27% of the Universe. According to one theory, Dark Matter exists essentially in two forms: in a ‘condensed’ form — stars, black holes, planets, and a ‘diluted’ form — gas, mainly hydrogen. The series was inspired and developed as part of the Snolab & Art residency, McDonalds Institute for astrophysics, in Kingston, Canada. The residency brought together artists and researchers from Snolab, a research laboratory located at a depth of more than two kilometres, where neutrinos, linked to dark matter, are captured.

I make these paintings to remind us of the unconscious, all that we are unaware of, and yet that constantly surrounds us.
