BLANK SPOTS (Die eigene Wohnung ist gefährlich) is a series that addresses the fear of being identified, driven by the anxiety of being attacked in front of one’s door.
Each frottage is created in front of or near the entrance of a building, collecting the dust of traumas buried in the ground. Taking advantage of its cartographic quality, some canvases in the series are reworked as musical scores.
Most of the frottages come from the sidewalks of Bucharest (Romania), where the pogrom of January 21–23, 1941, claimed the lives of people murdered as they stepped out of their apartments. Other frottages were created in Berlin-Mitte (Germany), around the Reichsbahnbunker.
A choral performance for six voices was presented in 2021, based on the musical scores, at the Belkin Gallery, Vancouver. This was in collaboration with composers Antony Knight and Walker Williams and the Department of Music at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver:
